Supermoon on June 23, 2013: Don't Fear the Supermoon, NASA Says!

Don't fear the 'Supermoon". There is no reason for anybody to dread the largest full moon of 2013, known as the "supermoon," a NASA scientist says.

On Sunday (June 23), the moon will reach perigee — the closest point to Earth in the rocky satellite's orbit around the planet. Although some people have suggested that the "supermoon"  phenomenon may be associated with increased risk of events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, cause natural disasters and wreak havoc on the tides, but there is scant evidence in support of those claims, NASA assures.

NASA planetary geologist Noah Petro said that while the tides might be slightly higher because of the moon's close approach, it won't make a noticeable difference for the average observer.

 

Certain prognosticators have moved the goalposts to within 1 or 2 weeks of a "supermoon" to suggest a causal relationship with specific natural disasters.

"Supermoons" that have "Coincided" with Natural Disasters

Devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Indonesia on Dec. 26, 2004 occurred about two weeks prior to a "supermoon" on Jan. 10, 2005.

"Supermoon" occurred on Jan. 30, 2010, about two weeks after the catastrophic earthquake that hit Haiti on Jan. 12, 2010.

Catastrophic earthquake and tsunami struck Japan on March 11, 2011 occurred about one week prior to the "supermoon" on March 19, 2011

"Supermoon" occurred on Feb. 21, 2011 just before the devastating earthquake that hit Christchurch, New Zealand on Feb. 22, 2011.

A massive 8.3Mearthquake struck the Sea of Okhotsk, Russia on May 24, 2013. The M8.3 quake is on top of the 6.3M 7.4M earthquake which struck Tonga (west Pacific)and the 5.7M which struck Greenville, California.

A large Earthquake (and very deep - 373.9 miles) . Location is the Kuril Islands vicinity -- a long volcanic chain located along the Northwest Pacific ring of fire. This area has been under extreme stress / heavy movement for the past several days, hundreds of earthquakes at the same location.

Earthquakes Central Arkansas:

An unusual number of earthquakes have been reported in Central Arkansas since Monday. More than a dozen have been reported across Morrilton, Strawberry, and Choctaw. A 3.5 earthquake hit the area. The U.S. Geological Survey says there have been 16 earthquakes, which is a high number. This is definitely more active than what we have seen in a long time."

Since this happened, people are advised to have a disaster preparedness kit ready.

6.8 Earthquake shakes Chile (12 M6+ quakes in one month) - May 20, 2013

A strong magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit central-northern Chile on Wednesday, shaking buildings as far away as the capital Santiago.

There were no reports of serious damage and there is no tsunami threat.

But it seems like the earthquakes increase in strength. Within one month, already 12 earthquakes of Magnitude 6+!

Something is going on under the ocean near Bali in Indonesie. According to Suspicious0bserver, there is a gigantic 1200 meter drop of the sea depth, which means a 1200 meter rise of the sea floor.

What can be the reason, an underwater volcano, tectonic movements?

Geological events

Geological events that alter sea level will be more to do with changing the shape of the ocean bed. For example an earthquake which raises the ocean floor by 2 feet will raise the sea by the same amount. Obviously this would only occur if all the Worlds ocean floors were raised but the raising of one area of sea floor will raise the average sea level, if only by a tiny amount. Over long periods of time this could add up to a significant alteration is sea level. Similarly, a drop in level of the ocean floor would provide a greater volume in which was contained the same amount of sea water to the sea level would fall.

Similar effects would be seen for the growth of under-sea volcanoes, tectonic movements reducing the overall volume of the ocean bed, or landslides from the land into the sea, all of which would increase sea level by displacing the water.

Sea level would fall by tectonic movements which increased the available volume of ocean floor, the destruction of volcanoes by catastrophic explosion such as at Krakatoa or the sea breaking into new low-lying areas of land by erosion of coastal barriers (either natural or man-made).

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale has struck Iran's southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan today, reportedly killing at least 40 people in the second deadly quake in the area in less than a week.

Hundreds of people are still missing and feared dead, more than 850 people injured in the disaster.

The IRSC also reported that the epicenter of the quake was situated 81 kilometers north of the city of Saravan.

According to the United States Geographical Survey (USGS) the quake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and was powerful enough to be felt as far away as New Delhi, India and the Gulf cities of Dubai and Bahrain.

Los Angeles, San Francisco, most of all these will be among those that will be destroyed before New York, or New York City itself, will in the main disappear. This will be another generation though, here; while the southern portions of Carolina, Georgia, these will disappear. This will be much sooner. The waters of the Great Lakes will empty into the Gulf of Mexico. There will be the upheavals in the Arctic and in the Antarctic that will make for the eruption of volcanoes in the torrid areas, and there will be the shifting of the poles.

Strifes will arise through the period. Watch for them near the Davis Strait between Greenland and Canada in the attempts there for the keeping of the life line to land open. Watch for them in Libya and in Egypt, in Ankara and in Syria, through the straits about those areas above Australia, in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf.

By this time, he indicated, a New Cycle would begin.
